PORT ST. LUCIE (Dec. 10, 2019) –  Joshua Rackley shot 7-under 65 to get into a playoff, and then made seven pars to win Event No. 3 of the PGA Tournament Series at PGA Golf Club.

Rackley earned his second PGA Tournament Series title at 9-under 135 Tuesday when John Cassidy three-putted the seventh hole of the Ryder Course for bogey.

“I’ve been struggling since September, shooting 85s and low 80s, until about two weeks ago,” said Rackley, a PGA Teaching Professional at Tam O’Shanter Golf Club on Long Island. “It was nice to find some momentum playing in a tournament this weekend. I can’t tell you the last time I went bogey free. It’s been a long year.”

And it was a long playoff.

After combining for 10 birdies, an eagle and a bogey in the final round, they made 12 consecutive pars to start the playoff. Cassidy had putts to win on the first four playoff holes, but the closest he came was a lip-out on the third hole.

“I gave myself some opportunities, but just couldn’t get a putt to go in,” said Cassidy, a PGA Teaching Professional at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Ore. “I didn’t roll it great. But this is only my second Series event.”

It was Rackley’s second Series victory. He shot a 66 to come from behind and win Event No. 5 last year. Rackley started the day four shots back in 15th place, but made two birdies and an eagle on the first four holes.

“The way I looked at it, I was tied for the lead with 14 holes left,” Rackley said. “I didn’t think I could win, but I knew I could jump up the leaderboard.”

Rackley earned $5,000 for the win. Cassidy made $3,600 for second.

Jeffrey Schmid (68) of Iowa City, Iowa shared third place with Brian Coe (69) of Dallas at 8-under 136. Rich Berberian Jr. (70-137) was fifth.

Dylan Newman of Greenwich, Ct., was unable to win his third consecutive Series event, but shot another 69 to finish tied for sixth place.
