PORT ST. LUCIE (Dec. 6, 2019) – Winning was so nice, Dylan Newman did it twice.

Newman shot a 3-under 69 Friday on the Wanamaker Course to win Event No. 2 of the PGA Tournament Series, completing a sweep of the first two events at PGA Golf Club. The 28-year-old Greenwich, Ct., resident finished at 7-under 137 to win by two shots.

“I’ve never won back-to-back,” said Newman, a PGA Assistant Professional at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, N.Y. “It’s weird. I felt really comfortable. Obviously, it’s difficult to close it out, but I wasn’t uptight or nervous. I just thought of the process and the shots I needed to hit.”

Newman earned another $5,000 first prize and is in great position to win the Series money title with four events left. He has shot three consecutive rounds in the 60s and his scoring average is 69.5.

Neman started the round tied for the lead with Trevor Bensel of Villanova, Pa., but took the lead for good when Bensel made three consecutive bogeys on the front nine. Prior to this week, Newman’s biggest moment may have been when he was low amateur in the New York Open.

“If I’m making a name for myself, so be it,” Newman said. “I just want to come and play good golf. Hopefully, I can keep it going.”

Dakun Chang of Long Grove, Ill., shot 66 and Chris Brown of Benbrook, Tex., a 67 to share second place at 5-under 139. Bensel (73) was fourth at 3-under 141.
